ESTABLISHED 1990 • SCOTLAND’S HOUSEHOLD STANDARD
The Complete Guide to Scottish Blend Tea
Formulated specifically for Scotland’s soft highland water. Famous for brisk maltiness, fast extraction, and iconic pyramid bags.
The Soft Water Specialist
Launched in 1990 by Unilever UK, Scottish Blend was specifically engineered to solve a common household issue: standard English tea blends frequently brew weak, pale, or flat when infused with Scotland’s naturally soft, low-mineral peaty water.
By balancing high-grown African leaves (primarily brisk Kenyan CTC) with robust Assam teas, Scottish Blend delivers a deep copper infusion and hearty body in under two minutes. Utilizing Unilever’s signature pyramid tea bags, the blend allows tea leaves more room to circulate and expand freely during quick everyday brewing.

How to Brew Scottish Blend for Peak Flavor
Scottish Blend extracts its color and malt notes rapidly. Following a few key brewing habits ensures your cup doesn’t turn excessively bitter or astringent.
- Water Temperature: Use freshly drawn cold tap water brought to a rapid rolling boil at 100°C (212°F). Avoid re-boiling water, as oxygen loss creates a flat, dull cup.
- Water Quality & Hard Water Warning: Scottish Blend was explicitly formulated for soft highland water. If you live in a hard water area with high limescale, this blend will over-extract quickly and develop a dark surface film. We strongly recommend brewing with a standard carbon-filtered kettle pitcher.
- Steep Time & Handling: Steep for 2 to 3 minutes maximum. Stir gently once or twice during the brew to let the pyramid mesh circulate the liquor, and avoid aggressively crushing the bag against the mug.
- Serving: Pairs naturally with a splash of fresh whole or semi-skimmed milk.
