A Letter from William Melrose to His Father William

William Melrose was the son of Andrew Melrose, who founded Melrose Tea in Scotland in the 1800s.  From about 1842 to 1857 he lived in China as a tea taster and dealer.  The many letters he wrote to his father is the subject of several books.  Here is a selection from the book A Scottish Postbag: Eight Centuries of Scottish Letters.

  5. Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter
and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
